& Events

It has been the desire of the Congregation that the Church and its buildings should be alive, welcoming and a key part of the Melrose community. Through developments carried out in 1998 the facilities of the church and the halls have been modernised and upgraded. This has made the fabric appropriate for the modern work of a lively parish church.

This section of the website endeavours to keep you up to date with all that happens within the church congregation and buildings be they organised by the Church or other Grouping.

CRECHE
This is run each Sunday to cover the period of the Worship. Babies and pre-Sunday School children are looked after in a dedicated room in the church halls. The provision is provided by a rota of ladies, many being mothers of children who are of have previously used the creche.

PLAYGROUP - (Gibson Park Playgroup)
The Gibson Park Playgroup, which has been an important part of the Melrose community for over 20 years, continues to thrive. It is held in the Parish Church Hall and provides and excellent environment for learning and play. The children, between 21/2years and school age, have a huge variety of activities to choose from including toys, arts and crafts, games, singing, and sand and water play.
The playgroup also allows them a chance to get to know each other before the start of more formal education. It is a useful place for parents to meet, and many of the parents took the chance to attend a local Red Cross First aid course.

The Playgroup is a member of the Scottish Pre-school Play Association and is managed by a committee. Kim and Irene, the full-time play-leaders, are supported by a regular parent rota and overall there are more than 40 children members. Funding is in part from parents, but also relies on fund raising activities like the recent Halloween coffee morning enjoyed by all. There are four weekly sessions (Monday morning, Tuesday afternoon and Thursday and Friday mornings) and anyone interested or requiring further information should contact Ruth Magowan (Chairperson) on 0 1 896-822454 or Harriet Inglis (Secretary) on 01896-823157.

TIBERIAS LINKS
The link between the project and the Melrose Parish Church is significant. This comes from the work that the Minister, Alistair Bennett is do along with support work from Alastair O'Neil. In the past few months Alistair Bennett has been very active in work related to funding of this extensive Church project in Israel and this has meant him being involved in recent visit to Atlanta USA.
